Live Music Management are proud to be able to announce the Road To The Isle Of Wight band competition is returning to the Walkabout Bars in 2014. The price for winning this battle of the bands competition is a once in a lifetime chance to play at The Isle Of Wight Festival , one of Europe’s premier Summer festivals with a stellar line up.
The Isle Of Wight Festival achieved world wide fame back in 1969 when it was the occasion for Bob Dylans return to live performance after a motorcycle accident which led many to believe he would never perform again. The 1970 Festival was notorious for being one of the largest gatherings of people in one place at one time and featured the biggest names of the day with acts like The Who , Jimi Hendrix , Miles Davis , The Doors , Joni Mitchell and many more gracing the stage for an unforgettable weekend of music.
The festival then took a thirty year break (partly because it’s success took everyone by surprise and the Isle Of Wight authorities had to legislate to stop large crowds from descending upon the island.) The Isle Of Wight Festival was then revived back in 2002 and has since attracted the biggest names in rock and pop with acts like David Bowie , The Rolling Stones , Paul McCartney , Kings Of Leon , The Who and The Police all playing on the main stage to great acclaim.
The 2014 line up includes Biffy Clyro , The Red Hot Chilli Peppers , Calvin Harris , Suede and The Specials and the Road To The Isle Of Wight Festival offers a unique opportunity for an emerging band to play alongside some of the biggest names in 21st century music.
Details for registration on the band comp can be found on the Walkabout website. Twenty eight venues throughout the UK will be holding regional heats with the finals being held at Temple Walkabout on June 8.
Last years competition attracted hundreds of entries from all genres of music and the 2014 competition is expected to be equally successful . The heats will primarily feature acoustic bands but there are sites which are offering opportunities for full band line ups and the final will be open for those acts that have appeared acoustically to show their full line ups in order to impress the judges and win that coveted place on the festival line up. The road to Isle Of Wight band competition begins next week so please get your entries into your local Walkabout asap.
